The Uganda Revenue Authority-URA on December 19, 2026 announced that importation and customs clearance of Starlink technology gadgets, communication equipment,and associated components is now restricted. Clearance is now supposed to be done by the Chief of Defence Forces-CDF Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who doubles as President Museveni’s son. President Museveni is seeking the 7th term in office having ruled Uganda since 1986.
Just few weeks to the 15th January 2026 presidential election, this has sparked mixed concerns as Civil Society Organizations and activists say the State might be planning to switch off internet on voting day to rig the elections.
