Police in Rwizi region covering Mbarara city and district, Isingiro, Rwampara, Ntungamo, Kiruhura, Kazo and Ibanda districts have registered increased number of crimes just in January 2023.
The Rwizi region police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira has confirmed that 236 cases. Murder cases recorded were 32 including 9 mob actions, 1 arson, 10 assault cases, 7 hacked to death, 2 strangled and 1 stabbed.
Others include; 84 cattle theft cases, 67 domestic violence cases, 5 rape cases, 13 aggravated defilement cases and 18 defilement cases. Break-ins in homes are also on the rise, with 17 cases registered in January 2023.
Police and other local authorities have now challenged members of the public to be vigilant and report cases in their areas.
