Mbarara regional referral hospital-RRH has today, Friday 3rd June 2022 discharged 13 children who had been admitted shortly after fainting during running competition.
Mr. Halson Kagure, the hospital public relations officer confirmed that pupils who were from Mbarara Municipal Primary School had been admitted to emergency ward where they received immediate attention.
Kagure said that pupils (all girls) were ferried in by boda bodas before doctors started stabilizing one by one,and the doctors attribute the cause to vigorous exercise they weren’t used to.
Ms. Olive Atwongire, the Mbarara Municipal sports and games teacher applauded the hospital health team for responding in time to stabilize children.
Experts warned that during such trainings, trainers shouldn’t always overstretch trainees as it might result into muscle cramps which causes someone to end up in the hospital. These girls will stop exercises for at least a week before embarking on moderate training.
