African armyworm outbreak threatens Kiruhura & other areas

Farmers and other stakeholders in Kiruhura district western Uganda and some other areas have expressed concern and worry over the current African armyworm outbreak in their areas.









The pests have already destroyed maize,other gardens, shrubs & animal grass, causing escalating fear & threat in the region.







They now want authorities to swing into action and fight these pests that have so far attacked Rwenshande and Kikatsi sub counties.




Kiruhura district production department has advised farmers to swiftly inform the agriculture officers and local leadership in case they see these pests in their farms or villages, as arrangements continue to arrest the situation.




Experts have also warned that this is a big threat to food security in Kiruhura & other areas like Kamwenge where they grow a lot of maize,that requires urgent attention.




Emergency control of armyworms is through use of chemical control; cypermethrin 5% at dosage of 100-120 milliliters in 20 litres of water or if you use profenofos 40%+cypermethrin 4% use 30-40 millitres in 20 litres of water.
