The Judiciary has launched the Small Claims Procedure-SCP in Bbaale, Kayunga district and at Kyankwanzi court in Kyankwanzi district.

The launch in Kayunga was presided over by Chief Magistrate Namboozo Joy in continued efforts to sensitize residents on the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution-ADR in resolving cases efficiently.

Speaking at the launch on June 20, 2024, Her Worship Namboozo emphasized the four forms of ADR – SCP, Mediation, Plea Bargain and Community Service, and encouraged residents to utilize them to expedite case resolution. She noted that the Bbaale court now has a substantive magistrate, and therefore, residents should bring their matters to court.

The Deputy Saza Chief of Bbaale, Mr. Mugerwa Patrick, commended the Judiciary for introducing SCP, which will enable residents to access commercial justice quickly and develop their businesses. He now urges residents to embrace SCP and refrain from engaging in illegal activities.

Also in attendance were the local council chairpersons, representatives from the Buganda Kingdom, and members of the Justice, Law and Order Sector-JLOS fraternity. The Assistant Registrar in charge of SCP, Her Worship Mastula Mulondo, encouraged residents to write agreements when lending money, as this will serve as evidence in court.

The LC 3 chairperson requested the Judiciary to conduct more sensitization to popularize SCP wider, while the RDC urged residents to be trustworthy and return borrowed money faithfully.

In Kyankwanzi district, SCP was also launched on June 19, 2024 at Kyankwanzi court, presided over by Justice Jameson Karemani.
