A serious family dispute has ensued over the final resting place for businessman and Ankole prince, Henry Katanga who was allegedly shot dead by his wife, Molly Katanga during a quarrel at their residence in Mbuya, Kampala in wee hours of Thursday, November 2, 2023. Some family members including Molly, who were at the home at time of the incident, were arrested by police.
The deceased’s mother, Milielly Kyobuhooro Katanga on November 3, 2023 obtained an interim order from the Family Division of Kampala High Court blocking Molly’s family members from burying her son as she wants her son laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kariro, Rubindi, Kashari, Mbarara District, while Katanga’s widow (through lawyers) wants the deceased buried at their country home in Rwanda Orwera Kikatsi in Kiruhura District.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: The couple last week gave away their daughter in marriage at a colourful wedding at Mestil Hotel. Reliable sources have confirmed that on the function, there was some commotion before security forces were deployed to contain the situation.
Before he was murdered, the 6i-year-old Katanga spent his night out partying with friends before driving to his residence in the wee hours. On arrival, he had a verbal exchange with Molly in their bedroom.
PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS: Police records indicate that Tricia Katanga, who is their daughter, heard her parents quarrelling. Moments later, a loud bang rocked her parents’ bedroom.
“Tricia rushed to her parents’ bedroom where she found Katanga leaning on the bed with blood coming out of his head and her mother lying on the ground unconscious,” said police in a brief statement.
Molly was rushed by family members to IHK hospital in Namuwongo for treatment.
A pistol no.UG 16222 00061 CZ99 Compact was recovered from the blood-soaked scene.
