The Rukungiri district water officer,Twekwase Deus in trouble for allegedly embezzling over Ugx200 million meant for Omukatooma Gravity Flow Scheme construction,to benefit residents of Omukatooma, Nyarubale, Omuruteezo, Kagorogoro, Mugyina and Kamaranga.
The residents are now up in arms after realizing that the entire project was supposed to cost Ugx375 million, but the signpost of completion indicates Ugx127 million as the total cost.
The project which started in 2019 was supposed to be done in two phases to benefit all people, but the only source that was constructed is Nyarubale whereas that one of Omukatooma was not worked on yet the government released all funds.
Paul Bafokwekiza, the chairperson LC1 Omukatooma cell revealed that he is wondering why district water officer insisted that all project phases were worked on yet nothing is on ground.
Following the outcry of the residents, the Rukungiri district leadership led by the Resident District Commissioner-RDC Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, chairperson LC5 Geofrey Kyomukama, Chief Administrative Officer-CAO Hajji Masokoyi Wasswa and other district leaders have convened a meeting at Murago primary school in a bid to harmonize before things get out of hand.
Residents want authorities to probe this matter, say they are shocked to see district leadership silent yet government funds are being embezzled by some officials.
RDC Nsubuga said he was forced to intervene following the public outcry claiming that what he commissioned was fake.
