Kasangati Chief Magistrate’s court has remanded former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) bosses including executive director Dorothy Kisaka, her former deputy David Luyimbazi, and KCCA director of Public Health Dr. Daniel Okello until November 4, 2024.
The trio has been charged with 57 charges, including manslaughter and causing death or harm by a rush or negligent act. These charges are connected to the August 10, 2024 collapse of the Kiteezi landfill, which killed 35 people and injured 21 others. The prosecution argues that the accused neglected their duties, leading to the tragic incident.

Defense lawyer Fred Muwema, who represents the accused, applied for bail but faced delays as the state attorneys arrived late, pushing the proceedings to past 4 p.m. Muwema requested the court either hear the bail applications or grant temporary bail due to the cooperation of the accused with police.
However, the magistrate declined to proceed with the bail hearing due to the late hour and advised the defense to file formal applications.
