Police in Hoima district has confirmed that the death toll in the recent road accident in Hoima district western Uganda has reached nine.
Among the deceased is the driver of the police patrol vehicle registration number UP 9799, Raymond Nuwamanya who breathed his last as he was being transferred to Mulago hospital for further medical attention.
Currently, six survivors are under medical attention at Hoima regional referral hospital and these include four police men and two civilians who were suspects in the murder case that happened on July 14, 2024.
The accident occurred in on Thursday evening, July 18, 2024 at Majengo cell in Kabaale Sub County near Kabalega Airport as the police patrol car was heading to Kyarushesha in Kabwoya to do a search on a murder case of Kyarushesha.
The incident comes just a day after four family members perished in Hoima Butiaba road, a situation that is making the transport difficult.
In a statement issued by police, the deceased include detective inspector of police Charles Avinzo Matubua who was the Kikuube district crime intelligence officer, detective assistant inspector of police Richard who was the Kikuube in-charge homicide desk, detective corporal Christine Cheruto who was the officer in charge of the gender desk and detective constable Samuel Ojambo CID personnel in homicide desk.
The suspects who died include Mubarak Lwamahe, Martin Munyuza , Peace Tukamusaba, and her one-month-old baby all residents of Kaseta in Kabwoya sub county Kikuube district.
The survivors include detective sergeant Francis Bwango – the second in charge of homicide, Michael Omamu – in charge of counter terrorism, Abel Nyiringiye – counter terrorism personnel, Johnson Tumusime, SPC Apollo Turinoha and suspects Julius Kabagambe and Jonathan Kamugisha.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says they are yet to establish the cause of the accident.
“Apollo Tumwesigye had a disagreement with his wife Peace Tukamusaba over marital matters doubting the one month baby being his own, and before his death he was last seen on 13th with Mubarak Lwamahe and Jonathan Kamugisha, only to find his body lying 200 meters away from the two gentlemen homes. ”
He said this prompted his relatives coming from Ntungamo to cause leading to the arrest.
Dr Ayub Safiyu Isooba, the Hoima regional referral hospital head of emergency department, said most of the survivors are responding well to medication.
“Our doctors and nurses are doing whatever it takes since yesterday to ensure that lives are saved.”
