David Kagabwa, a retired catechist hailing from Kigunda cell Kati parish Kanyabwanga sub-county in Mitooma district western Uganda and his accomplice Kenneth Atuhikire are currently entangled in a saga of alleged aggravated homosexuality and trafficking – with David already in jail and Kenneth on the run.
On May 30, 2023, David and Kenneth allegedly engaged in anal sexual intercourse with a one,Derrick Atwijukyire in Kainamo parish Bushenyi district.
Atwijukyire later reported to police claiming that David had called him to come from Mitooma for a job at Kenneth’s place, only to be sexually assaulted by two the duo at night.
Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson has confirmed that investigations are still underway following David’s arrest on June 1,2023, as efforts to apprehend Kenneth also continue.
Court Process: Bushenyi Chief magistrate’s court presided over by his worship Simon Toloko, yesterday June 8,2023 remanded David to Bushenyi government prison on charges of aggravated trafficking and homosexuality, until 18th July 2023.
The anti-homosexuality act 2023 & local communities’ plight: Following the signing of the bill into law by President Museveni on May 29,2023, LGBTQIA+ members in different parts of western Uganda and the country at large have expressed fear, and community sources confirmed to RISE NEWS UGANDA NETWORK that some community members are using the homosexuality allegations against non-LGBTQIA+ over their personal wrangles.
More cases: Today June 9,2023, Police in Bushenyi have arrested another man for allegedly sodomizing a 12 year old boy. The suspect has been identified as Godfrey Kasingye Rukampena, a resident of Nyabwirima cell Bitooma town council Bushenyi district.
