Mbarara district Khadi Sheikh Abdallah Mukwaya and other Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC have accused a section of Muslims for masterminding a campaign to abuse Mufti Shaban Mubaje and other Muslim leaders, alleging that they have sold off UMSC cemetery land at Mile 2 in Mbarara city.
The cemetery land on plot 68 along Mbarara-Masaka highway has been causing disagreements since 2016 when Muslims asked Mufti Mubaje to investigate the reports that the land had been sold to TUSU petrol station owner who is a neighbor, at a giveaway price of Ugx400 million.
Sheikh Mukwaya on April 23, 2023 clarified that UMSC has only started exhuming bodies from part of the cemetery which belongs to TUSU shoppers proprietor Sulaiman Tumusiime, and warned Muslims to avoid attacking Mufti and other leaders over issues without evidence.
According to Hajji Rashid Mukasa – the chairman Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Mbarara district, the rumors that circulated on social media over the weekend were spread by unscrupulous people.
Rise News Uganda can authoritatively report that UMSC through Sulaiman Tumusiime, secured another chunk of land in Rubeho parish Kabale cell in Isingiro district which will be used as another burial ground for the bodies exhumed at mile 2.
