Chief magistrate’s court sitting in Bushenyi has remanded Dr. Gilverse Rubagumya Twiine until 20th September 2022 when he will appear in court for further mention of his case where he is accused of defiling his 17-year-old biological daughter.

Bartison Baguma, the Greater Bushenyi State Attorney charged Dr. Rubagumya who is a former doctor at Kitagata hospital with aggravated defilement of his daughter who was a student at Bweranyangi girls’ secondary school. Authorities are also investigating reports that Dr. Gilverse slept with his daughter several times.

At the beginning of second term, he gave the daughter some abortion pills and advised her on how to swallow them in case she didn’t experience her normal menstruation period. While at school, the girl never had her menstruation period prompting her to swallow the abortion pills which caused her a deteriorated health condition, and she was rushed to the hospital where she disclosed this emotive story.

Bushenyi district police intervened and arrested Rubagumya before he was charged. Simon Toloko, the chief magistrate Bushenyi who is handling the case says court will sit on September 20, 2022 to further decide Rubagumya’s fate.

Meanwhile, Mothers in Greater Bushenyi especially in Bushenyi, Sheema, Buhweju and other areas have cried out to authorities and other stakeholders to intervene and punish fathers who are sexually harassing their biological daughters as such cases have escalated.

This also comes at a point where concerns are being raised by different stakeholders about Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights-SRHR  gaps and related issues; increasing cases of teenage pregnancy, immorality and other issues reported in different schools & the society at large.
