Now, Ms. Lillian Namara Kigundu – one of the Miss Tourism Ankole 2022/23 contestants has implored relevant authorities and stakeholders to jointly conserve biodiversity and culture, to boost tourism. https://pageantvoteafrica.com/pageants/563/contestants/4861
Lillian is a local tourist guide who graduated from Makerere university business school with a bachelor’s degree in travel and tourism, and a postgraduate diploma in records and information management currently working with National Forestry Authority-NFA (headquarters Bugolobi).
Asked about her plans to cause impact in the tourism sector, she stressed that everybody will be brought on board to promote grass-root based tourism and culture in Ankole,Uganda and Africa as a whole.
“Ankole is a wonderful tourist gift basket of amazing attractions satisfying all sorts of travellers from all walks of life – like Lake Nyabihoko located in Ntungamo, the Galt stone site and the Mugore site, great proximity to national parks like Lake Mburo in Kiruhura, and others that should be conserved and promoted,” she added.
She further explained that Ankole is gifted with historical and cultural sites like Biharwe eclipse monument, Ankole palace Kamukuzi, Nkokonjeru tombs, Igongo museum and others that should be protected and promoted through different avenues including involving local communities & other sectors – to promote the love, spirit and knowledge about Ankole. Life style norms, culture and beliefs should also be promoted.
The Miss Tourism regional search is on in different towns and the grand finale will take place in September. After a search conducted in Teso and Bunyoro, the team is in western Uganda where 11 contestants will be judged on the finals slated for August 13th 2022 to pick who will represent the region at the grand finale. The winner from the Ankole search will represent Ankole in the grand finale that will take place at Kampala Serena Hotel. The Miss Tourism 2022/23 winner will become Uganda’s Tourism Ambassador – also represent Uganda in the different Tourism Pageants like Miss Tourism International, and Miss Tourism East Africa among others.
