The police in Rukiga district western Uganda are investigating the alleged murder of a 58-year-old Uganda Peoples Defence Force-UPDF veteran soldier.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson has confirmed that the deceased is John Kataratambi, a resident of Nyamirima cell Rwenyangye parish Kamwezi Sub-county in Rukiga district who is alleged to have been murdered by his wife, Sarah Arebo,25, a Karamojong – resident of the same area who has been arrested by police.
On Friday 8th July 2022 at around 1pm, the suspect left home and went to drink alcohol in a trading centre in Nyamirima cell while the husband (deceased) was left taking care of their two children and father in-law identified as Kitwekyoma Zavero. In a statement, Zavero stated that upon reaching home at 11pm of the same day, the suspect reportedly started a quarrel with the husband (deceased) and on Saturday morning when Zavero opened kitchen, he found his son’s body lying in a pool of blood.
The suspect survived being lynched and she was rescued while being assaulted by a mob when Charles Bendakabi,the parish chairman who alerted the Kamwezi Police that rushed her to Kamwezi health center IV for medication. Police visited the scene, postmortem done and body handed over to relatives for burial and the suspect was later arrested. Police also confirmed that the body was found with a deep cut on the forehead and the panga used was recovered as exhibited.
