The Uganda Police Force-UPF and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital-RRH are set to sign a memorandum of understanding-MoU that will see police officers & their families receive special services. Police leadership held a meeting with the hospital’s top management led by Executive Director, Dr. Celestine Barigye at his office on Thursday, April 28th 2022.
Mr. Martin Abilu, commissioner at Uganda Police Force appreciated that the hospital is among the best health facilities in the country offering specialized services and the MoU will minimize the tendency of officers seeking services from Kampala, some being airlifted for treatment, etc.
This will cover services including for officers with terminal illnesses such as kidney failure, cancers and others which had become a burden to officers and family members travelling to Kampala.
He has now tasked police commanders in Rwizi region to declare all their families and children prior enrolling in any medical service.
Dr. Barigye has explained that the MoU makes it a mandate of the hospital to treat the patients; police officers, spouses with their children and bills be cleared by the government on a quarterly basis.
The hospital Public Relations Officer, Mr. Halson Kagure has confirmed that the exact date for official signing has not been set, but the entire paperwork is done and they are now waiting for police leadership to finalize with some issues and they officially sign the MoU, which he says “it’s very soon”.
Some of specialized services offered at Mbarara regional referral hospitals include dermatology, urology, orthopedics, neurology, radiology, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, among others.
