Western Uganda. Authorities at Mbarara regional referral hospital have confirmed that 30 people are in quarantine with COVID-19 mild symptoms, appealing for public caution to avoid spread of the pandemic amid concerns over a looming COVID-19 wave.
The hospital Public Relations Officer, Mr. Halson Kagure says from 13th January 2024 to date, 30 people have presented COVID-19 symptoms like flue, cough and others, prompting medical experts to advise them to go into 14-day quarantine. AUDIO – Kagure says people should follow Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs.
He revealed that they have designated the hospital infectious diseases and research centre as an isolation centre, and continues to caution the public to be more vigilant. He has also emphasized that coronavirus is still prevalent and spreading among Ugandans.

On 5th May 2023, the World Health Organization-WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared end of the global health emergency for COVID-19. He clarified that that this did not mean the virus was no longer a global health emergency, instead countries were advised to transition from emergency mode to managing COVID-19 alongside other infectious diseases.
7 CONFIRMED COVID-19 POSITIVE: Meanwhile, the Kabale District Health Officer-DHO, Dr. Gilbert Mateka three days ago confirmed the admission of seven COVID-19 patients to hospitals.
Five patients are at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, while two others are admitted at Kamukira Health Center IV in Kabale municipality.
Mateka said dozens of community members with flu-like symptoms have tested negative for Covid-19, urging the public to adhere to safety measures as the virus continues to pose a threat.
