The President of Uganda and Chairman of NRM-PARTY.
Your Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
State House
Kampala, Uganda
Your Excellency, As I pen these words, my heart swells with a mix of joy and trepidation. Joy, at your resounding victory in the presidential election, securing over 71% of the vote – a testament to the unwavering trust and confidence the citizens of Uganda have reposed in you and the National Resistance Movement (NRM). And joy, too, at the NRM’s triumph in securing a majority in Parliament and local government, a true reflection of the party’s strength and popularity.
As you embark on this new term, I pray that service delivery will be the guiding star that illuminates our path as a party in power, and that the next five years will be marked by tangible improvements in the lives of Ugandans.
Your Excellency, I write to you with great respect, love, and a sense of responsibility, drawing from my own experience as a former parliamentary candidate for Workers’ MP and NRM Flag Bearer 2026-2031. The principles of NRM – Nationalism (Patriotism), Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Social Economic Transformation – are more relevant today than ever. I urge you, Mzee, to rekindle the flame that has driven our party’s success and to revisit the values that have made us who we are.
The monetization of politics, Your Excellency, is a scourge that is eating away at the very fabric of our party and the nation at large. The excessive commercialization of our electoral process is undermining the values we hold dear, and teaching our young generation that money is the ultimate arbiter of power. As a leader, I implore every leader to take a step back and reflect on the kind of nation we are building. Are we creating a society where competency is rewarded, or one where the highest bidder takes it all? I speak from experience, Your Excellency, when I say that this is killing many great leaders who would otherwise rise up and take this nation to great heights.
As a candidate for workers’ MP and NRM flag bearer, I witnessed firsthand the impunity that characterized the election for Workers’ MP – we had candidates buying each vote at 1.5m shillings, something that left everyone speechless and because of this, NRM performed badly in that election. We all saw what happened in Kololo during the NRM Delegates’ Conference. We don’t want to repeat the ugly scenes we saw in Kololo.
The recent parliamentary and local government elections were marred by impunity and corruption of the highest level, leaving deep wounds that still linger. It doesn’t matter how much people shout, scream, celebrate, and put up a show. A corrupt leader is a big danger to society and a nation at large. Your Excellency, your vision for improving household income in this term can only be achieved with leaders who embody integrity, honesty, and a commitment to serving the common people of Uganda with grace and humility. If our representatives are elected through questionable means, how can we expect them to serve with excellence and integrity? You can’t give what you don’t have.
The spectacle of people grabbing their opponents’ victory in broad daylight, the Electoral Commission announcing two candidates for one position, and people using the court to subvert the will of the people – this is a ticking time bomb, Your Excellency. I beseech you, let us embark on a journey of reconciliation, lest we risk igniting a conflagration that will consume us all.
The infighting, sabotage, and wars within NRM are alarming and a stark reminder that we have much work to do. Your Excellency, it’s time for an internal audit to address these issues and restore the party’s moral compass. It’s disheartening to see members of the same family fighting each other, more than they would join hands to fight their common enemy. Many NRM Flag Bearers failed because of double standards, wars, and selfish interests from those who should have fought for them.
I humbly request that you extend a listening ear to our Flag Bearers who lost the elections at all levels – many are grappling with depression, loans, discouragement, and despair. Your personal intervention, as a father, would be a beacon of hope. Recall how you reached out to those who had lost in NRM Primaries and wanted to contest as independents – you called some of them, offering guidance and support. I request you do the same for these dedicated party members.
Your Excellency, it’s time to show love and comfort to those who have stood with the party through thick and thin. Cadres who gave it all during campaigns to see NRM win massively at all levels. It’s time to prioritize the welfare of our committed NRM cadres, and flag bearers who lost elections. They deserve to be shown love, appreciation, comfort, and if you could deploy most of them, you would have touched our hearts deeply. We need your guidance and leadership now more than ever.
Your Excellency, Uganda is blessed with abundant natural resources, a favourable climate, fertile soils, and peace and your able leadership – all of which should propel development at a supersonic speed. Yet, corruption has crippled our progress, denying us good roads, quality healthcare, and excellent education. Government projects fail not because they are flawed but because they are hijacked by individuals with a perverted mindset who prioritize personal gain over national development. We forget that the services we deny our citizens today will cost us dearly in the future.
To combat corruption, we must go beyond arrests and instil values that have lifted many nations from grass to grace. True nationalism, patriotism, accountability, integrity, honesty, and transparency as citizens and leaders, respect for public resources, accountability, and godliness. By embracing these values, we can build a strong nation where development thrives, and our people prosper.
Corruption must be fought with the same vigour and determination that we fight against insurgency, regardless of where the perpetrators choose to invest their ill-gotten gains.
In conclusion, Your Excellency, the biggest battle we now face as we strive to build our economy is restoring a society of values, morals, integrity, transparency, and godliness – a people who put the nation before their own interests. As I pen these words, I am aware that some will appreciate this message, while others may be offended. But I am reminded of the wise words of Edmund Burke, “When good people keep silent, evil thrives in society.” And the Bible story of High Priest Eli comes to mind, where God’s blessings were upon him, but his sons’ wickedness and his own silence led to the downfall of his household.
Like Eli, we risk invoking God’s anger if we fail to address the corruption, impunity, and moral decay that threaten our nation. But if we act with courage and conviction, we shall see the blessings of God like never before. Let us strive to build a nation where integrity, honesty, and transparency are the hallmarks of our leadership, and where our people prosper under the guidance of God and your able leadership.
May God bless Uganda and guide Your Excellency in this noble endeavor. With long life He will satisfy you. Yours in service,
Akandwanaho Joshua Israel – NRM Flag Bearer & Former Contestant For Worker’s MP 2026-2031.
