The West Ankole Bishop, Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni has dismissed the Member of Parliament-MP for Buhweju West in Buhweju district, Hon. Ephraim Biraaro Ganshanga from the synod the MP for Buhweju west Biraro Nganshanga from West Ankole Diocesan synod amidst concerns that the legislator has a 2nd wife & children in Kampala which violates the Anglican guidelines & creed.
Synod is a top council in a Diocese meaning that a diocese is governed by a bishop acting with the advice and consent of representatives of the clergy and laity of the diocese.
Our sources have it clear that MP Biraaro was nominated by Biraaro to the synod, and he attended the firts session last month (March 2022).
However, Biraaro has been dismissed after investigations confirmed that he secretly has another wife with children in Kampala.
This comes amidst efforts to have Christians reconciled since a group led by Mr. Emmanuel Karasi petitioned the Archbishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu claiming that the synod was poorly constituted and there was too much concerns that compelled the Archbishop to intervene.
Karasi and the group asked the Archbishop to overturn the election of head of laity and other positions, and he replied (a letter) confirming that he was going to task Bishop Johnson to brief him on how the synod was constituted.
Ankole Diocese has been dominated by wrangles fueled by different issues including “family matters” between prominent people, and this especially during Bishop Yonah Mwesigwa Katoneene’s tenure, who served from 2006 to 2016 when Bishop Johnson took over.
